NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — County public health officials Wednesday will be testing for tuberculosis at a National City preschool because an individual there was recently diagnosed with it and may have exposed others.the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency and the National School District Preschool Center are also working together to notify those who have been in close contact with the infected person from Nov. 2 to Dec. 17.”We urge those people who are at risk to get tested, in order to catch early infection before it makes the person ill with TB,” said Dr. Eric McDonald, the county’s Deputy Public Health Officer. “TB can be treated and cured with medication and that’s why it is important to identify.”Symptoms of active TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. Most people who are exposed to TB do not develop the disease, as prolonged close contact is needed to pass it to others. This is the 14th case of TB in San Diego County so far this year. There were 222 cases in 2010.
