HOSPITAL patients can relax and unwind in comfort thanks to a generous donation from local supporters.

Members of the Lung Club presented two electric recliner chairs to Whipps Cross University Hospital recently.

the chairs can be used by both patients and their friends and family, and will be housed at the Margaret Centre.

the specialist palliative care unit offers relief of symptoms to people with life-limiting illnesses.

Ward manager Jane Alix said: “We are extremely grateful to the Lung Club for these chairs which are used by our patients and also relatives who wish to stay overnight.

“On behalf of the trust I would like to thank you for improving the comfort of our patients.”

throughout the year the Lung Club members have organised charity events in a pledge to continue supporting many key hospital services.

Last year the group provided the chest clinic with two transcutaneous carbon dioxide monitors which monitor oxygen and carbon dioxide levels non-invasively.

they have been “a great benefit” to the clinic and patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

the Lung Club provides special talks and advice sessions, and also organises trips for members.

Chair Veronica Crace said: “We continually try to raise the profile of the club and help the hospital and patients affected by breathing problems by raising funds to buy the most up-to-date equipment we can.

“This all helps to improve people’s quality of life which is our main purpose.”

anyone with any type of lung or chest condition is welcome to attend sessions at the Lung Club.
