whooping cough symptoms
I have symptoms that are exactly like whooping cough. the coughing strikes me usually in the morning when I am trying to get out of bed.
It is not an all day event.
I smoke.
Without stating the obvious, what is going on here?
When I first got it, it started out seeming like a mild cold/cough…I felt like I needed to clear my throat, but couldn't. About a week later, I started waking up in the middle of the night coughing and having difficulty breathing…the "whoop" happens between coughs when you try to suck some air into your lungs. I would typically cough until I vomited…which was fun since I was incontrolably inhaling between coughs whilst vomiting. My cough was at it's worst at night. it lasted about 3 months. Once you develop the cough, there really isn't any treatment…antibiotics may be helpful if given prior to the start of the cough. At the point where you are coughing the bacteria is already dead.
Good luck…I hope it isn't whooping cough and clears up in a few days.
I dunno where you live, but if your weather is anything like we are experiencing here in NJ, it's hot and humid. I'm also a smoker, and with the humid weather tend to have a cough in the AM. I don't have "smoker's cough" all year, but when the humidity hits, my chest gets very tight and I cough a lot in the morning and it's hard for me to catch my breath. do you have fever or make a "whooping" noise when breathing? if not, 10-1 it's probably not….Especially if you've had your immunizations. TDaP …..T(tetanus) D(Diptheria) P(pertusis….aka, whooping cough) should be given every 10 years starting at age 11.
