Antibiotics for Strep Throat

by Symptom Advice on April 3, 2011

There are several antibiotics for strep throat. we will tell you more about this infection and the way to treat it. If you start having the symptoms like fever, nausea, appetite loss, vomiting, lymph glands swelling, tongue redness, abdominal pain and red spots inside your mouth – all this can indicate strep throat infection. Do not panic, because this infection can be successfully treated. it cannot harm you if you start treating it in time.

People sometimes think that it is just a bad cold and they leave in untreated and wait for the infection to go away. this is completely wrong. There is a huge difference between strep throat infection and flu! There is also a difference between sore throat and strep throat. Strep throat is treated with antibiotics, but this therapy is combined with other home remedies. Tea, soups and plenty of liquid can help you recover faster. Use salt water for gargling. this is not very pleasant, but it is certainly effective. Strep throat can sometimes affect your appetite, but it is important to eat healthy foods – even if you don’t feel like eating anything. it is very important to stay home and avoid close physical contacts with other people. explain to your family members that they should keep away for a while and tell them not to use your personal belongings. this is for their own good, since strep throat is very contagious.

Antibiotics

As we said, strep throat is treated with antibiotics. Doctors usually prescribe:

-          Amoxicillin

-          Dicloxacillin

-          Flucloxacillin.

-          Methicillin is also used, but there were cases when it couldn’t cure strep throat because bacteria were resistant.

-          Zithromax is also used for strep throat.

Some of those antibiotics are known to be very effective in treating several types of infections, but you should never take them without your doctor’s knowledge. If you think you have strep throat, you must see your doctor first! never take any medications by your self! your doctor will be able to tell what is wrong and he/she will give you the right medications to use. your doctor will prescribe the dose and you must never change the dose without your doctor’s knowledge. this is especially important if you are allergic to some substances, like penicillin, for example. Many antibiotics contain (or they are based on) penicillin, and if you are allergic to it, you can experience severe reactions. These allergic reactions can be very serious and dangerous, so you must consult your doctor before taking these medications.
