Can someone help me diagnose these symptoms?

by Symptom Advice on January 14, 2011

My step-mom has the following symptoms: Shortness of breath, Tight Chest, Sharp pain under left breast and left arm, runny stool (not diahirah (sp?) but just kinda runny) can anyone tell me what might be going on with her….she is a CNA and doesnt even know herself….please help!

She could have asthma, mixed with influenza (flu).

When someone is experiencing severe symptoms, they cannot think clearly enough to diagnose themselves. Lucky for her that she has you.
Symptoms on one side only should be taken very seriously. her other symptoms are also worrisome.
Call an ambulance. do not try to transport her yourself, because, should anything happen en route, you won't be able to help her.
Call, now and God bless.

hahaha I gotta get my mom for this shes a doctor.

Her answer:
It sounds like pneumonia. I am very suprised being a certified nursing assistant that she doesn't have any ideas! these are the exact same symptoms that I had when I had pneumonia last year except the runny stool, but runny stool and diarrhea is very common in problems dealing with pneumonia. Chest pain is normal for the tightening and inflammation of the lungs. Dizziness is fairly common in pneumonia because of lack of appetitite and shortness of breath, so make sure your mom eats if she loses her appetite. Home remedies include a high potassium content such as bananas, heat rags on chest, and if you do got to the doctor, here are some fairly common antibiotics. Macrolides, such as azithromycin, clarithromycin, and erythromycin. Tetracyclines, such as doxycycline. Fluoroquinolones, such as gemifloxacin, levofloxacin, and moxifloxacin. if you have to go to the doctor, your doctor may use any of the above antibiotics. other antibiotics that your doctor may use in this situation include:

Cephalosporins, such as ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, and cefepime.
Penicillins, such as amoxicillin and ampicillin (A lot of people are allergic so ask)
Vancomycin.

That's all I know about antibiotics that are great with treating pneumonia.
Watch out for signs of cough, green or yellow sputum, High fever with shaking chills, shortness of breath, chest pains, blood in cough, headaches, loss of appetite, fatigue, blue skin, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches etc. etc.

Good luck and take care.

Yeah, my mom is smart.
