Can you have anxiety symptoms but not feel anxious?

by Symptom Advice on January 14, 2011

I suffer from chest pains, dizziness, shortness of breath, left arm pain, tender chest.

Ive had every heart test going and docs say its fine.Lungs are fine, blood fine.

They all say anxiety but I dont feel anxious.

So can you have anxiety symptoms but not feel anxious?

The only think I can say is that I have a poor posture so I can see how this can manifest itself into pain all over but can it cause all these?

thanks for reading

You can certainly have anxiety symptoms and not be aware of it. take some exercise to try and relieve the symptoms. they will pass.

Sometimes anxiety can be deeper seated than you realise- it may not be something that you can immediately think of – but it can go back over many years- a traumatic event in your life, some kind of abuse- sometimes we sit on feelings under the guise of coping- then suddenly later in life there is trigger and we have anxiety attacks. its a good idea to think back to see if there is something that has happened in your life that maybe you have not dealt with as fully as you should. I used to sit on problems, hide my feelings, not deal with traumas and it culminated in a breakdown- then i used to have terrible anxiety attacks- its worth considering. I conquered this by dealing with each thing on my road to recovery. very rarely have a panic attack now.

-If the doctors cant explain the symptoms,it may be worth a consultation with private doctors-they could investigate things like lyme disease / borreliosis(which can throw up those symptoms),but obviously it may be other things, other than the lyme infection. I cant see it being anxiety myself,if you dont feel that way.

you are afraid of being ill. thats anxiety. exercise is a good thing. lots of feel good endorphins whizzing through your bloodstream. find something else to occupy your mind. good luck.

You say you don't feel anxious, but maybe subconsciously you are? what are you worried about? Do you have enough to occupy your mind ? (don't mean to sound condescending, but if you have too much time on your hands you can start to worry too much if you are a natural born worrier and become too inward looking).
Try to find something to occupy the mind – I took up conservation work and walking, being outdoors is good for the wellbeing. maybe something more active or more creative would work for you. Good luck.

Hi I think you can have symptoms of STRESS and not know it. Anxiety is pretty full on, and there and then Stress can be over a period of time. the effects can be the same, indegestion, IBS, all the anxiety symptoms really, but not in a full blown panic attack.
Dont be afraid to admit if ( if you want) and accept some treatment. it could well help in the " as required" way. I.E take one when you feel bad. its not the end of the world.

I have this when I get too much caffiene and yet I don't feel "jittery". Cut out the caffiene and see if it gets better…it'll take a couple of days.
