There’s a confirmed case of whooping cough in a Craven County child and others who have symptoms.

The Craven County Health Department says there are 9 people who have symptoms of whooping cough and they are being tested for the disease. 8 of those people have had the vaccine and one was in the process of becoming fully vaccinated. However, the child that has the confirmed case was never vaccinated the health department says the child’s parents chose not to vaccinate due to a religious exemption. Symptoms to look for are severe prolonged coughing that usually end with a whooping sound, and sometimes severe coughing can cause a person to vomit.
