Do Breast Cancer Symptoms Vary?

As in many other conditions, the breast cancer symptoms are also known to vary from person to person. Swelling, appearance of lumps and the numerous changes in the skin are said to be a few major symptoms. However, breast cancer victims need not show symptoms of the disease at all times. Symptoms which are similar to breast cancer can also get displayed from various infections or cysts.

The breast cancer symptoms cannot always be seen especially in the initial stages. such symptoms generally take the form of either being a very small lump which is very hard for the patient to observe or certain abnormal changes which the patient will start to observe with the passage of time. By performing an X-ray on the breast, otherwise known as mammogram, these abnormal areas can be easily detected. Further testing will have to be conducted before coming to a certain conclusion if such changes are detected.

One of the major breast cancer symptoms observed is the development of a new lump or mass on the breast which can be felt by either the patient or the doctor. these lumps are said to be soft, tender and rounded in appearance or hard, painless and even have edges which are uneven. It is mandatory that the patient report to the doctor in case any of these unusual changes start getting displayed in the breast.

Skin dimpling or irritation, the nipple getting turned inwards or experiencing pain, discharge of substances other than breast milk by the nipple, swelling developed in either a part or the whole breast, breast pain, thickening on either the nipple or the breast skin, changes such as scaliness and redness, changes in either the breast shape or size and appearance of a lump in the underarm area are a few major breast cancer symptoms.

It is however to note that any of these breast cancer symptoms can be caused by other non cancerous reasons. At certain instances, infections and cysts can also be assumed as the non cancerous reasons. hence, women who are under the impression of having contracted breast cancer must not come to any conclusions at the initial stages and have the possible symptoms checked at the earliest by a doctor.
