My setter had kennel cough intra-nasal vaccine just over a week ago, and has developed what I think is post vaccine symptoms. I am worried though that he may have tracheal collapse which I think has similar symptoms….(although I know tracheal collapse is more common in toy breeds)
Its most likely from the vaccine, which can take 3-5 days to develop as much immunity as it can (bordetella is never 100% effective). If he was exposed right before the vaccine or during the 3-5 days, he may have contracted KC.
Tracheal collapse in a larger dog is more common with older dogs, those with heart disease or obesity, or occasionally dogs with injury from constant pulling on a choke collar. the vet can discern which it is by touch & xray. Tracheal collapse has a more honking kind of cough due to airway constriction.
I've never witnessed sudden tracheal collapse in any setter, so I don't think that is what is happening.
Please contact the vet who administered the medication. they should be able to tell you whether this is serious or not over the phone, and you may not even need to bring the dog back in.

When i took my Yorkshire Terrier to the vets because he was coughing the vet advised me that he thought it could be kennel cough, but it sound is very similar to a Tracheal collapse.
Apparently it's very common in smaller breeds, especially Yorkshire Terriers.
It was Kennel cough but check it out with the vet.

It seems that usually symptoms of tracheal collapse appear when pressure is put on the trachea (when pulling on leash, for instance) and kennel cough symptoms appear randomly and frequently throughout the day. the best way to know for sure, though, is to have him examined by the vet.
