How do antacids relieve the symptoms of indigestion ?

by Symptom Advice on August 6, 2011

its for my homework. I need help !! :/

they neutralise acid in the stomach for a couple of hours. Higher pH less reflux symptoms

Since you are honest and admit it for your homework (unlike a lot of people on here…)!

Antacids are alkalis and neutralize the acid. Just like your chemistry course work. Stomach acid is hydrochloric acid and a typical antacid is magnesium carbonate.

HCl + MgCO3 = MgCl + CO2 + H2O (unbalanced equation)

Antacids do not relieve anything except hyper acidity
