Idexx Laboratories has announced the launch of the Snap fPL Test, a device designed to help in the rapid diagnosis of pancreatitis among cats. The new testing system is the first pet-side unit of its kind to measure feline lipase levels specific to the pancreas, offering accurate results in as little as ten minutes so that owners can be provided with information as quickly as possible.when abnormal results are produced, veterinarians can choose to run the fully quantitative Spec fPL Test from Idexx Reference Laboratories to evaluate the severity of the illness or monitor treatment response.according to the company, feline pancreatitis can ordinarily be difficult to diagnose, due to the fact it normally presents nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms and is often associated with concurrent conditions.Dr Melissa Beall, Idexx's medical affairs manager, said: "Recognising pancreatic inflammation early in a sick cat can have a significant impact on patient care and disease management."Last month, the company launched the latest 8.1 version of its Idexx Cornerstone practice management software, which incorporates new features based on user feedback.
