If a cat has rabies, do the symptoms sometimes go away for awhile, or do they increase?

by Symptom Advice on December 2, 2010

last night my cat had very similar early stage symptoms of rabies, but they only lasted for about an hour, today it is acting somewhat normal, been slepin mostly but hasnt eaten yet.(but last night i was almost sure it was rabies). my question is if the rabies symptoms come and go? or does it stay always without stopping.

Rabies does not come and go. It is always fatal.

they increase i think talk 2 ur vet

What are the symptoms you see which you think are from rabies?

If you even suspect that your cat has rabies, you MUST take it to a vet.

Rabies is a highly contagious disease which kills animals and humans.

Rabies is always fatal for cats.

It is fatal in humans unless treatment is given early enough.

If you have even the slightest suspicion that your cat has rabies – take to the vet now.

If the vet is closed, take it to an emergency clinic.

If you don't have one, call animal control.

Do not hesitate over this – get her checked.

Rabies is nothing to play around with – it is a very dangerous disease and you need to be sure she cannot bite anyone – including you – and transmit the disease.

Answered your previous question… it doesn't sound like it's rabies if he's gone from a yowling wreck last night to mostly normal today. however the fact that he's sleepy and not eating sounds like he is still sick. As I said before, some poisens the victim can appear to be getting better, but in fact have damage that means they can still die. you need to get him to the vet. even if he's recovering, not eating is serious in a cat. if they don't eat, it can give them liver damage. so get him to a vet!
