Have my driving test in a week.

Feeling extremely nervous about it.

Dry mouth
Feel very sick
Tense stomach, in a massive knot
Pounding heart.

Can i do anything about these symptoms.?

Test isn't for a week !!

i am so sorry you are such a wreck….. you could try doing some deep breathing… in and out…. breathe in for a count of three and out for a count of four…. then breathe in for a count of four and out for a count of five…… etc… until you are breathing in for a count of ten and out for a count of 11…..

Yes, practice driving, get as comfortable behind the wheel as you can. Spend hours doing the parallel parking etc.

Relax. calm down… if you don't pass the first time you can always re-take it. I was really nervous, but I got a 93 on my test. Don't forget to use your blinkers on the three point turn, even if there is no one around… they dock you for that. But seriously, just deep breaths, get enough sleep. if you feel sick and are like freaking out about it you won't be focused for your test. You'll be fine. good Luck!!!

When I had my driving test and refused to "pay" them thay failed me 2 times.
And wait till you see me now 5 years later…ready for the WRC!!!
So…no big deal!

yes, find a nice comfortable setting, somewhere you can relax, perhaps some relaxing music, and breath slowly, as you inhale and exhale listen to your breathing as ocean waves coming and out from ashore. this will help calm you. then visualize yourself driving . repeat steps as much as you like. with defferent relaxing techniques. when the test comes you will be so relax and mentally prepared. trust me.

Have you tried talking to someone you trust about how anxious you are? sometimes that helps me feel some relief when I'm feeling really overwhelmed. if you are too embarassed or not comfortable talking with someone then try writing it down somewhere private. Write down just like you did above except explain what it is that makes you feel so tense, for example: every time I think about getting into the car to take my driving test my mouth becomes so dry I can hardly swallow and my heart feels like it will hammer right out of my chest. That way you are acknowledging those feelings and taking some of the power away from them. I know for me it help just to be able to see that those feelings are just words and can be reduced to lines on the page. My therapist also recommends getting rid of the paper once you have written it down. So after you have made your peace with your fears you can literally throw them away and forget about them! And when they start to creep back in just take a deep breath and remind yourself that you have already dealt with this and resolved it. it sounds kind of silly but believe it or not it can work. best of luck to you!

Well, this doesn't sound like a full-blown generalized anxiety disorder, since you have pinpointed a specific cause of your anxiety. First off, here is something you can do to control your pounding heart:

empty your lungs.
1) take 5 slow breaths successively until your lungs are full (don't exhale);
2) hold this breath in for a count of 5;
3) let the air out of your lungs in 5 slow exhalations.
4) Repeat steps 1)-3) five times, or as often as necessary.

Once you've managed to calm down a little bit, write up a list of the things that are bothering you (in particular, things that you are worried about happening in the driver's test). Is it a reasonable worry to have? if it isn't, write down a rational response to the worry, explaining why it is unreasonable (e.g. worrying about running over someone during your test. This is unreasonable because you will be in a safe environment, you haven't run over anyone yet, there will be a trained professional with you, etc.) if it is reasonable, ask yourself, so what is the worst that could happen? Write it down. Is it likely? Probably not.

The act of writing down your fears helps you to consciously acknowledge them and overcome them.

It's just a test! good luck!
