Is swine flu really that bad…?

by Symptom Advice on April 4, 2011

i live in texas, in a city bordering mexico,
no cases of it here, at least not reported
im feeling a little on edge, just because , well, mexico's but a few miles away from where i live and a virus sees no borders so there's a chance of it making its way here but im just wondering, even if it did would it really be that bad?
its the flu. its not cholera, its not the plauge. Ive read the symptoms and they didnt seem to be much worse than your common everyday flu and yet, its a pandemic.
and with that title how could anyone just shrug it off ?
they're already closing down schools on the mexican city that borders mine…
is this cause for panic?

It's not THAT BAD in the case that its symptoms are just the symptoms of a normal flu. But what makes it much worse is the damage it does to the systems of our body. The symptoms are as common as another flu, but it has no cure yet, and it breaks down the body systems little by little. That's what makes it really scary.

The World Bank says in the coming weeks, there's a possibility that 10% of the World's population would die from this disease. The World Health Organization already had an Alert Level of 5.

My friend's mom started hallucinating and her brothers started vomiting. my mom started experiencing flu-like symptoms then me and my sister started feeling it. Coughing and everything, chills, headache, fever, everything. I think everyone has The Swine Flu already, but it's not officially classified as Swine until 3 days later upon seeing symptoms. The Swine Flu has already spreaded and more are infected than what is shown. Please wash your hands and don't touch your mouth or eyes.

No, you stupid ****. Swine flu is just like any other flu, nothing more. The only difference is that it can be more easily transmitted between humans because this variation of flu is brand new to the human immune system, rather than typical flus which have been around for thousands of years and the immune system has had time to evolve beyond this type of contagiousness.

The media is making too big of a deal. Only one American has died thus far, and it was an infant.

It is not a pandemic, not even an epidemic yet; govt officials are using that term to frighten. The last swine flu scare fizzled by mutating to a less harmful strain. There are indications it is doing the same this time. However usual common sense precautions make sense.

Don't panic just be more aware of yourself around other people. now if I lived that close to the border I would spray Lysol on everyone. jk If you touch someone just sanitize your hands. Get clorox spray "Anywhere". I will wipe down shopping carts, use foot to flush public toilets, scrub hands, when opening doors use a paper towel to open. I worked in a dr. office & I will go thru a can of Lysol in a week. good luck

No. my brother just told me that they have medicine that u can take 48 hours after contracting it. You'll know u'll have it. You wake up with some raging fever. U should be fine.Kno the symptoms and if you get any…go to the doctor. its suppose 2 be like the regular flu. I dnt get why people are freaking out.

It is one of the worst illnesses that you can get and so yes, you can die from it, not like the common cold at all. There is a vaccination, but keep in mind that it's very expensive, a shot will cost well over $1000.

it's just a flu, that spreads like any other flu

BUT THAT KILLS MEXICANS ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHGGGGGGGGGGG… WORLD PANIC
IT'S THE BEGINNING OF 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…

Its spreading randomly and sometimes rapidly. it has been known to cause the deaths of a few people. its pretty serious but it hasnt reached a very dangerous level yet.

People are dying from it, and a baby in TX has now died. It's serious, and could get much worse. Follow precautions and hope for the best

Don't panic. just be very sure to wash your hands, eat healthy, keep fit, and stay away from crowds, or people who look sick, or Mexican (no offense).

welll you have to be realllyy care ful clean your hand dont touch your face……. or eyes around the face but stay clean…..and go on youtbe and see videos on reports,,,,and when you're sick stay away from school

Yes it is the worst flu you can get!

THE FLYING PIGS ARE ATTACKING BRITISH COLUMBIA!

If you live in a Border City chances are within the next couple of days you will get an Infection.

Apparently it is….just be careful

yeah there actually 16 people with swine flu in texas and 1 person died from it already. check ur news!

It's way overblown. calm down.

don't stop, believing

No…it's very similar to the common flu.

Yes! this is killing people! and were talking 1000's here! by the way I live in miami florida.

be prepared to bitched at… people are sick of this question.. i just read another one lol but don't worry. =)

Ok allow me to explain why its a big deal.
Swine Flu is a virus like the common cold.
The common cold has been the longest known of illness.
A virus cannot be stopped with medicine because viruses adapt. People have been dying from the swine flu.
People travel and the virus spreads through out the world. When there is an out break of an illness like this people are terrified of catching it so when people around them get it they will leave to avoid it. therefore they could already have it and they are spreading it even more. Birds migrate. The disease can be caught from there poop. say a bird poops in a cows food and the cow eats it. now the cow has the disease. then the cow gives it to the other cows. This is dangerous because its not curable and its speading fast. and its deadly. one good thing is that when the swine flu pops up in a new location the virus seems to be weeker and less people die from it. Hope I helped!

REALLY YOU BELIEVE THIS TOO.THE THING IS THAT THEY WANT IS TO SCARE THE COMMUNITY. GO INTO DEEPER RESEARCH ON THIS SUBJECT (SWINE FLUE GOVERNMENT) DON'T GO TO PAGES LIKE CNN OR WIKIPEDIA GO INTO OTHER WEB PAGES THAT OFFER DEEPER INFORMATION. YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED WHEN YOU FIND OUT. I KNOW EVERY PERSON I TELL THEM ABOUT THIS SUBJECT GETS ANGRY AT ME BUT NOW I AM JUST TELLING THEM TO LOOK IT UP FOR THEMSELFS. I KNOW IT SOUNDS WEIRD BUT LOOK IT UP FOR YOUR SELF. THE AMERICAN GOVERMENT DOES THIS SO WE FOCUS ON SWINE FLU AND NOT THE THINGS THAT ARE REALLY GOING ON…

It's not bad but it's not good, it really depends on how healthy and your age. But if your anywhere from 10 to 65(good shape), don't worry. Personally if I get it I'm not going to be scared, just pissed I'm sick lol.

Panic is not wise. Preparation for what lies ahead is. What can you do to protect yourself and those you care about. If you read the posts online, it becomes quite clear quite quickly that a lot of people refuse to take this seriously because statistics are on their side. That's dumb logic considering you can manipulate statistics as you please…and while only a fraction of the human populous will die from this disease…what if you are a part of that fraction…or your mother, or father, sister, brother, child, etc. one death close to home and the idea of the pandemic becomes real. until then, people ignore it. and that is why it will happen. because they will continue to travel of interact as if nothing is wrong and there is no reason to make efforts to contain. just take more steps to prevent. There's really nothing else you can do right now…outside of being disgusted by people's reactive nature and disregard for threats.

i live in san diego which is just above Mexico and we have like 8 confirmed cases right now and a 3-year-old is hospitalized.
according to the daily press con. they all have quite mild symtoms.
i have no idea why it's so deadly across the border but it seems like it's relatively mild here in the US and that only those with weak immune system ( babies, little kids etc) need to be hospitalized, the rest can stay home and recover
so as for now no need to be too panic and there's nothing much we can do— just wash your hands frequently & aviod going to crowded places

well there is no cure from it yet so you will die. just be cautious.
