He just got his shots Tuesday, and the cough started the very next morning. Last night, he would wake up like was coughing and couldn't catch his breath. it was very scary. It's not quite a dry cough, but I do not hear any congestion.

I would take him into the doctor. it may be asthma or allergies. if his throat feels dry (allergies) he may cough. if eh can't catch his breath, that sounds like asthma. my daughter has both. They will probably get you a nebulizer and just keep an eye on his breathing.
