NUTRITION AND BLOOD TYPES

Human body mechanisms:The human body functions amazingly well regardless of how we actually take care of ourselves. There are built-in mechanisms that control the acidity of the stomach and various fluids. another mechanism controls blood pressure, and another regulates the amount of glucose allowed in the blood stream, regardless of the food eaten. other mechanisms ensure that enough calcium is present in the blood to participate in nerve transmission and heart beat regulation. When these mechanisms begin to malfunction, whether from age, disease, injury, or poor diet and other lifestyle factors, we see high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and diabetes.According to Chinese Medicine colon health is associated with depression. This science states every organ system is associated with an emotion and when our organs become out of balance so do our moods. if your colon is unhealthy you may be experiencing depression. One way to do this is to follow the blood type diet because, it is a low lectin diet. Lectins that react with your biochemistry in undesirable ways cause inflammation and deterioration in the colon. if you follow the blood type diet, and get on a diet that is compatable with your colon it can rejuvenate and heal your colon, thus making you feel more happy.

The blood type diet:The blood Ttype diet is based on the fact that all foods have proteins that can interact with antibodies in blood. Dr. D’Adamo has tested most foods and determined which blood types react adversely to lectins in most foods. Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins that are found in most plants, particularly seeds and tubers such as cereal crops, potatoes and beans (legumes).  Lectins are proteins that do not break down easily, and they are resistant to both stomach acid and digestive enzymes.  Lectins may bind to the wall of the gut and damage the gut lining.  they can cause changes in the function of the gut which may be related to diseases such as colitis and irritable bowel syndrome.  Because of the damage that lectins do to the gut, other proteins may be able to cross into the body undigested and cause allergic reactions within the body. As lectins can cross into the body through a damaged gut wall, they can bind to cell membranes in arteries and vessels, organs and glands. This binding can create reactions which lead to auto-immune disorders or degenerative diseases.  Different lectins are associated with different diseases.  For example, dairy-based lectins are associated with juvenile onset type one diabetes.

Blood types and stress levels:

One’s blood type can certainly predispose an individual to different ways of responding to stress and balancing mood. another important factor is the stress hormone cortisol. Type O produces the least amount and Type A produces the most amount of cortisol. When cortisol is continually over-produced it can cause adrenal exhaustion and the corresponding symptoms of depression and fatigue. Type Os reaction to stress can cause an overproduction of adrenaline which can make them more susceptible to anxiety when stressed. But again, long-term imbalances can create more depression from burn out of the nervous system as well. Type A, with their naturally higher levels of cortisol, are particularly prone to problems from ‘everyday’ stress. As the adrenal glands pump out more and more cortisol, they eventually tire out, causing the person to have a quicker response to minor stressors. Type Os are more prone to problems that arise from an inability to clear stress hormones from their system quickly; it takes more to get a Type O stressed but it takes more to de-stress them as well. That’s why they require more vigorous exercise, whereas Type A can do a lot with yoga and Tai Chi for cortisol balance. Type B can also benefit from more calming exercises, especially if they are prone to depression in the family. ABs benefit from routine and anything that keeps their immune system functioning properly like eating and going to bed at the same time, routine cleansing, and avoiding extremes in terms of lifestyle.

Blood group specific differences:

Blood type AMuscle tissue in A blood group works better when slightly alkaline.  Gastric acid is reduced in As making them more prone to stomach cancers rather than stomach ulcers.  they are also short on intrinsic factor to absorb vitamin B12 so are prone to pernicious anaemia.  Magnesium is often needed.  ‘A’ blood group is more prone to excess mucous, particularly from dairy foods and wheat.  other problems are often respiratory, allergies, diabetes, a sluggish liver and gallbladder problems. People with this blood type are very prone to high levels of cortisol, which results in anxiety, lowered immune response, compulsive behaviour and premature aging. Colon, liver and kidney cleansing can be of great help to such people.

Blood type BB blood type needs a more balanced metabolism, neither too acid or too alkaline.  Chicken particularly is a problem in B, as it contains a B agglutinating lectin in its muscle tissue.   This can lead to strokes and immune disorders.  B copes well with stress and needs moderate exercise.  Magnesium is needed to metabolise carbohydrates.  Low magnesium levels makes B prone to viral infections, fatigue, depression, nervous disorders, and skin problems. Blood Type B people often has problems with their adrenal glands and stress. Stress relief can also be used to balance emotions and reduce stress. it helps deal with repressed stress or overreacting to stressful situations, problems common in Blood Type B. Focus attention helps create mental clarity and a consistent mood as well as contributing to concentration and memory retention, in Blood Type B people.  Blood Type B people assimilate calcium very easily, which often results in a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium helps reduce stress and fatigue and helps with the body’s ability to handle sugar.  Blood Type B people are more prone to certain types of infections like influenza (flu) virus they are at higher risk for tuberculosis and urinary tract infections.Blood type AB AB blood group needs muscles to be slightly alkaline to work.  Reduced stomach acid due to the ‘A’ factor gives a more alkaline stomach, more suited to carbohydrate foods and not needing a lot of meat.  The B factor causes problems with chicken.  Wheat and dairy are usually OK though watch for mucous.  The banana lectin is unsuited for AB. Blood Type AB people have better protein digestion than Blood Type A, but not as good as Blood Types 0 and B, so they may need some assistance with digestion.  Blood Type AB people have a tendency to high cholesterol levels and environmental sensitivity, resulting in reduced immunity. High blood pressure may also be a problem with Blood Type AB, especially from overly emotional reactions to stress. Blood type O Peter D’Adamo has found that people with this blood group have decreased thyroid activity giving a slower metabolism and more sluggish behavior.  Muscle tissue in O works better when slightly acidic.  they have a natural increased gastric acidity to digest a high animal protein diet. Os are more prone to stomach ulcers.  they need B vitamins to stimulate their slow metabolism also calcium, iodine and vitamin A from plant sources.  Os need to exercise to relieve stress.  Stress can result in arthritis, asthma, ulcers, obesity, fatigue, depression, insomnia in O blood group

n Take Care of Yourselfn People with depression often struggle to eat well, but it’s during a period of depression that good nutrition is most important.n Eat at regular intervals, three or more times daily, to avoid getting too hungryn Eat fatty fishn Eat whole grainsEat leafy greensn Eat a balanced dietn Take a good multivitaminn Reduce your consumption of alcohol, sugar, diet soda and coffee
