Prostate is an organ that is located near the bladder. It is covered by the urethra. Urethra is a tube that empties urine through the penis. the back part of the prostate can be felt during an examination by a physician. the prostate gland plays an important role in reproduction. It is the prostate glands that produce most of the secretions during ejaculation. the secretion that the prostate gland produces gets mixed with the sperm and helps the sperms for locomotion within the female reproductive system. the gland helps in contraction of the muscles during ejaculation. the important function of the secretion produced by the prostate gland is to prevent retrograde or backward movement of the semen into the bladder. since its location is near the bladder, any problem associated with the prostate affects the bladder also.

There are many problems associated with the prostate gland. One of the infections associated with prostate gland is prostatitis. Prostatitis is the inflammation of the prostate gland. since the prostate gland is located near the bladder, the symptoms are associated in the bladder also. some of the symptoms of prostatitis are urgency to urinate, frequency of urination, burning sensation while urinating, poor urine flow and difficulty in beginning urination. there are four types of prostatitis namely acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis, chronic prostatitis without infection, chronic prostatitis without infection and asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis. each of these has different symptoms depending on the severity of the infection.

The most common symptom of any type of prostatitis is painful urination, urge to urinate and increase in frequency to urinate. the symptoms of acute bacterial prostatitis are fever, chills and shakes. Chronic bacterial infection prostatitis is asymptomatic but sometimes causes bladder infection. Symptoms associated with chronic prostatitis without infection are erectile dysfunction, painful urination and ejaculation. Chronic prostatitis with infection is asymptomatic but may have general symptoms like difficulty to urinate and painful urination. these infections can be diagnosed and treated when found in the early stage.
