Watery Vaginal Discharge – Mucus Like Discharge

Vaginal discharge is commonly experienced by women. some amount of fluid emanating from the vagina is completely normal and is a natural process of the body. this fluid is secreted by the glands of the vagina and cervix. Normal vaginal discharge is clear and odorless. this discharge helps to clean the vagina of germs and old cells, thereby protecting from infection. Vaginal discharge during ovulation is also a normal occurrence. It keeps the vagina lubricated so that the egg can travel easily from the ovaries to the fallopian tube. However in some cases, abnormal vaginal discharge may occur. this could happen on account of various factors.Abnormal vaginal discharge tends to be excessive in quantity. It is also likely to be different from normal vaginal discharge in terms of color, consistency and odor.

Itching, burning and irritation may also occur when there is abnormal vaginal discharge. Vaginitis refers to inflammation of the vagina. this could occur due to infection or contact with an irritant. It is common among younger females and the discharge which occurs may contain some blood. Irritation and vaginal discharge may also occur due to use of latex condoms, diaphragms, vaginal lubricants and spermicides. Bacterial vaginosis is a condition caused by bacterial infection. Women with bacterial vaginosis tend to experience vaginal discharge that is white or gray in color. The discharge may also appear cloudy and may have a fishy odor. Thick mucus like discharge usually occurs in case of candidiasis or yeast infection. There is also likely to be itching and redness of the vagina. Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease which results in frothy, yellowish vaginal discharge. Trichomoniasis symptoms include lower abdominal pain, discomfort while urinating and presence of blood in the vaginal discharge. Other conditions that result in abnormal vaginal discharge include Chlamydia and gonorrhea which are both sexually transmitted diseases. Cancer of the uterine lining, vagina and cervix are examples of more serious conditions that may lead to irregular vaginal discharge. Cervical cancer symptoms include pain during urination, vaginal bleeding and lower back pain.

It is essential to consult a doctor immediately if any of the cervical cancer symptoms are experienced or when abnormal vaginal discharge is detected. Proper diagnosis and treatment of these cervical cancer symptoms would help to alleviate the condition and prevent further aggravation. Home remedies may be used to obtain relief from discomfort, but appropriate treatment is a must to cure the condition. In most cases, a pelvic examination is performed to diagnose the condition. a sample of the vaginal discharge may also be taken for further analysis.
