by Symptom Advice on February 27, 2011

I was told by my doctor that i had depression a year ago and i think im going thru it again but i would like to know what are the symptoms? because i don't want to go to the doctor again. im just scared of being on pills

Intermittent bouts of depression can be normal when related to situational stressors. when you know you are in one of these periods, increasing your daily exercise can often alleviate your symptoms. Starting a walking program is easiest on your body but needs to be done daily. Only when you withdraw from all normal activities do you need to talk with your physician about medications that may help you through a period of depression. You can go to WebMd.com and type in depression and read up on this condition.

Depression isn't something you can just get rid of on your own. A few of my patients thought that and all they did was supress their problems which caused a build up with unexpected and unwanted outbursts. You don't necessarily have to take pills, you can go to the doc and ask to get a referral to a therapist to talk it out. believe me it actually works even though there are a lot of nay-sayers to this method.

Symptoms and anything else you want to know can be found at this website:

good ways to help ease your depression is exersise, try st johns work (can get in holland and barret i think, be careful tho if you take other medication it has adverse effects) try mediation, spend time with someone who loves you very much it makes you feel worth while and wanted, visualise times when you have been happy or times you had fun, if you have a pet spend time playing with it or get a pet,
