What's the difference between prostatitis and urethritis?

by Symptom Advice on July 29, 2011

As far as symptoms, causes, treatments, etc

Thanks!

"itis" means "inflammation of". Prostatitis = inflammation of the prostate. Urethritis = inflammation of the urethra. Infection is a common cause of both and would involve urine tests and antibiotics. With the prostate, however, additional blood tests (PSA) and digital rectal exam would probably be performed to rule out prostate cancer.
