FT. CAMPBELL, KY. – Less than two months after a Fort Campbell soldier turned himself in for going AWOL, he is scheduled to return overseas.

Army Spc. Jeff Hanks, 30, went AWOL after returning to the U.S. on leave in September. Hanks said he was suffering from symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and likely traumatic brain injury.

“I didn't know what it was. I thought it was just natural for someone coming back [into the United States],” Hanks told Nashville's News 2.

The 30-year-old infantryman has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hanks said he was denied treatment on two military bases before refusing to redeploy and went AWOL in order to seek civilian medical attention.

The soldier turned himself in to Fort Campbell on Veteran's Day.

Since November, Hanks has seen multiple military counselors who have yet to diagnose the soldier.

He is scheduled to redeploy to Afghanistan on Sunday.
