ANSWER: The fact that you had symptoms of an STD soon after you were infected does NOT mean that everyone sees symptoms just as fast.
It could take several months, or even longer, for symptoms of STDs to show up, depending on the type of STD, and depending on the person. The fact that symptoms may take a long time to appear is one reason testing is so important. For example, someone could have HIV for several years before symptoms appear, but more than 98% of people who have HIV would test positive within 3 months. STDs can be transmitted, even if there are no symptoms. you can not tell that someone has an STD just by looking at them.
