Metallic taste in mouth, red swollen toes – what do these symptoms mean?

by Symptom Advice on January 10, 2011

I've had a metallic taste in my mouth on and off for about a month now. A week ago one of my toes turned mysteriously red and tender right at the tip. now over the last two days, half my toes (mostly on right foot) are red, tender and a little swollen, especially at the tips or the undersides. They also itch and burn.

I am on no medications and I haven't changed my diet.

What could this be? thanks for any help you can offer.

Gout is very painful, and you haven't mentioned pain. so I have no idea. my brother had a metallic taste in his mouth which turned out to be a side effect of an ACE-inhibitor blood pressure medication, but you don't take meds.
