What kinds of natural remedies can I use to help alleviate the symptoms of TMJ and lockjaw for my elderly cat?

She's 17 and this is the only illness she's ever had. Otherwise, she's in excellent shape and seems much younger, according to the vet. her kidneys are wearing down a bit, but she's naturally drinking a ton of water to counter that. the vet recently diagnosed her with TMJ and lockjaw, rendering it difficult and painful to eat. She's taking half of a steroid pill daily. the vet wanted to cut it down to half a pill every three days, but she had a lot of trouble cutting down so we're back to daily. This has been going on for about a month. On a daily dose, she eats full meals but is very sensitive about it and will leave her bowl multiple times. I've had good success by sitting with her and re-placing her bowl in front of her, wherever she's moved. I'm concerned that she's taking so many steroid doses, however, especially since she's still not at 100%. are there any natural remedies I could be using to help alleviate her discomfort and potentially cut down on the steroids (with the vet's consent)?
